Problems with Complement Extraction Lexical Rules

In the current HPSG literature there are several versions of complement extraction lexical rules around. Most of th em are inexact. I formulated my criticism in the paper. Apart from that I point out some problems which arise if one uses CELRs in grammars of German. In particular I show that it is impossible to implement the case principle and the agreement principle with an ARG-ST list.

I show how the functionality of lexical rules can be implemented with phonologicaly empty elements called functional traces. One can do this by employing the Specifier Principle of Pollard and Sag (1994). If one don't want to have an ARG-S list for the binding theory it seems reasonable to use this kind of traces.

I solved the problems mentioned in this paper. The solution is explained in Complement Extraction Lexical Rules and Argument Attraction.
