This paper tries to introduce alternatives to GB/Minimalism with a page limit of 20 pages. If you want to see me fail, please read it. I introduce dependency grammar, Categorial Grammar, LFG, TAG, GPSG, HPSG and Construction Grammar. The representation of valence is explained and certain phenomen that were accounted for by transformations in Transformational Grammar are analyzed in non-transformational ways. The phenomena include active/passive alternations, verb placement and fronting in German.
