By public transportation

The Institut for German Language and Linguistics is reachable by bus, tram, S-Bahn and undergrund. There are tramstops of the lines M1 and M12 infront of the door (stop Universitätsstraße). The next S-Bahn/underground station is Bahnhof Friedrichstraße. Regional trains also stop there. Busses stop on the street Unter den Linden at the stop Staatsoper. Since our institute is so well-connected it is difficult to give advice as far as the best connection is concerend. It is easier to get the best connection via the BVG route planner. If you want to use your cell phone for tip planning, we suggest using the app of German Rail: DB-Navigator.

By train

The nearest main-line station is Berlin Hauptbahnhof (Berlin Central Station). You may use the S-Bhan to Bahnhof Friedrichstraße (one stop). Regional trains also stop in Friedrichstraße.

By boat

In case you come to Berlin by boat, please get off at Friedrichstraße (Weidendamm).

By plane

For a short intermediate time Berlin has two airports: Tegel (TXL) and Schönefeld (SXF). Both are well-connected to public transport.

Schönefeld airport

The S-Bahn connection from Schönefeld Airport will take you to Bahnhof Friedrichstraße (1 hour, you have to switch trains once). The Regionalbahn of German Rail is an alternative. You do not have to switch trains and it takes 45 minutes only. You may use the same tickets you use for public transport also in the regional trains, provided you are traveling in the zones in which the tickets are valid. When you come from Schönefeld you need an ABC ticket. Area C is needed for the airport only. For the rest of Berlin AB – the city area – is sufficient.

You may use the app of German Rail (DB-Navigator) to find your optimal connection from the airport to the city. It offers you both train and public transport connections. The web-page of German Rail offers the same information.

Tegel airport

The only way you can reach Tegel is by bus. The easiest way to get to the institute from Tegel is by the airport express bus TXL. It needs 33 minutes if it is not stuck in traffic jam. The bus runs every 6 minutes during the day. You need tickets for the AB zone. You may buy four tickets at once, which is a bit cheaper.
